Maicey-Lou Hampson is only 9 years old and has already shown what a kind, selfless and charitable young girl she is by throwing herself into charity work. A couple of weeks ago, Maicey earned herself £5 pocket-money by cleaning her Aunt’s house. She immediately went to her mum, Adele, who works here at Sheridan Lifts, and asked how she could use this money to help raise money for people with cancer.

Overwhelmed by her daughter’s generosity, Adele helped her research which specific charity she would raise money for, and, after seeing a video on Facebook about a little boy called Lucas who had to go to America for Proton Beam Therapy, she started crying and said that she wanted to raise money to help children like Lucas.

Lucas’ family are currently fundraising for the Proton Beam Therapy Unit at The Christie in Manchester, as without the unit, children like Lucas, have to travel to the US for therapy – a costly and stressful journey for people who are so sick. Maicey decided that this is who she wanted to raise money for.

Once they got the ball rolling, a number of local businesses contacted them to donate prizes for the raffle and in the first day alone, Maicey had raised over half of her £250 target. Prizes include:

  • Hairdressing vouchers
  • Clothing vouchers
  • A weekend stay at The Mitre Hotel
  • A three-course meal at Barca

After selling cupcakes at her local gymnastics club, packing grocery bags at supermarkets and selling the raffle tickets Maicey-Lou has raised an incredible £1100 in just 8 days – absolutely smashing her initial £250 target.

To raise even more money, Maicey is planning on entering the Junior Great Manchester Run and is even planning her own Midnight Run, in partnership with The Christie, on the 30th May. It’s going to start from The Red Lion Pub at 4 Lanes End and finish up at Leigh Sports Village.

A number of media outlets have picked up on Maicey-Lou’s fundraising and she has been interviewed by The Independent, Bolton Evening News and the Manchester Evening News. It’s such a remarkable thing for someone so young to do and everyone here at Sheridan Lifts could not be prouder of Maicey-Lou!

People can donate by buying raffle tickets, donating on her Just Giving page – https://www.justgiving.com/Adele-Ince/ or texting MAIC99 £[amount] to 70070.
