Today its time for a trip down memory lane and a look to the future as we profile the career of Manchester boxing legend John Murray and his new protege, our very own Dylan Sheridan!

Pictures shown below are of former UK champion, world title challenger and Manchester legend John Murray in the ring before a fight sponsored by Sheridan Lifts. The 2nd is John now training with Dylan Sheridan. How about that for a role model!

I sat down with the affable Dylan and he told me:

“I first remember John from when he won the European title against Gary Buckland. I was around 8/9 years old.

Straight away I was a fan, he was a real warrior and I loved that type of style”.

John then went on to challenge Brandon Rios for the WBA Lightweight title a few years later and famously locked horns with another Manchester favourite and friend of the business, Anthony Crolla. This fight was billed as the battle of Manchester and wow what a battle it was!

Toe to Toe all the way through, it had the city divided and the MEN sold out. It was the reds vs the blues, machine vs million dollar.

“I remember the excitement that gave me watching 2 of my favourite fighters go to war and it gives me motivation as that’s what I dream of doing one day” Dylan continues.

“I used to watch all the Manchester made boxers growing up. I am very proud of where I come from, so being able to train with another one of the Manchester greats is amazing especially as he was also sponsored by my family company Sheridan Lifts who I now work for and represent.

I have good role models to look up to, I am very close with Anthony Farnell and I have trained with Antony Crolla and now Murray – not many can say that so I count myself very lucky.

At the minute I am an amateur boxer so every day is a learning day for me.

I’m very lucky to have a good family, a good team, and good friends around me giving me the best chance to achieve my dream of one day following the footsteps of Crolla and Murray by boxing at the MEN Arena.

I have a lot of support through my sponsors Notorious fight gear and also the lads love a good fight day, we have never struggled to clear the tickets – the people of Manchester know how to turn up to support one of their own!

A quick shoutout to my mam and my dad my number 1 supporters! They are my motivation, and every day is about doing them proud they mean the world to me so the fact I am on the right path fills me with excitement because the goal is to bring home a belt and say we did it!”

Good luck to Dylan in his ongoing career both as an engineer and in the ring!
