Hotel lifts stepping up a gear

Stepping into a lift is probably something we all do frequently, probably without much thought. And why would we? The majority of lifts are just, plain metal boxes which we stand in for a few minutes whilst they take us to a place we actually want to be. With the mundane background music and minimal art, lifts usually don’t offer up much other than an alternative to the stairs.

However, there are some recent hotel lift installations that are really raising the bar. Some of the ways these lifts have been decorated are just unbelievable! How does riding a lift that shows the creation of the universe sound? How about a lift that also works as a photo booth, with props as well?! We’d probably want to miss our floor…

Hotels are always looking to set themselves apart from the crowd. There are only so many ways to decorate your hotel rooms, so many VIP features to provide and so many “exclusive” offers to come up with. So that’s why hotels are pimping out their lift installations! What started off as a fun exercise for smaller, more boutique hotels to give themselves an edge, has spread like wildfire and now, even the world’s largest hotel companies are getting in on the action.

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has video presentations set on six-foot-tall high-def screens. They change the theme depending on the time of year and they’ve currently got a display dedicated to the Chinese Year of the Monkey!

QT Sydney offers art for the eyes and ears in their lift installations. It can detect how many passengers are riding and tailor the experience accordingly. For example, if one person is riding the lift it might play Elvis’ “Are You Lonely Tonight?” whilst it delivers calming and contemplative visual effects. However, if the lift is crowded it might play MC Hammer’s “You Can’t Touch This” whilst offering up ma psychedelic disco visual!

Lift installations like these are just the tip of the iceberg and we can’t wait to see what else they come up with!
