All good things must come to an end and today at Sheridan’s we bid goodbye to our ever-popular Key Accounts Manager Steven Connelly who leaves the business after 7 years to go travelling Down Under. Not a bad reason to leave, to be fair!
We sat down with Steven in the back room with a brew and grilled him (!) on his 7 years with Sheridan Lifts where he’s seen the business grow substantially into the fabulous lift company it is today, if we say so ourselves!
“I was 16 when I joined the business, I’d just finished school and came for an interview here in the July, I was hired initially as a Business Administrator, so was on the front desk to begin with”
“I then progressed to lead generation and onto sales. Then several years later a colleague of mine left in 2015 (ironically to go travelling in Australia) which created a vacancy in the service and maintenance department. I applied internally and got the job as Key Contracts Manager”
One thing that Sheridan Lifts are renowned for is promoting from within where possible.
What does your role involve then?
“My role involves looking after 3 of our largest accounts in Kellogg’s, Manchester City Council and One Manchester. I look at cost expenditure, attend meetings with our clients and of course liaise with residents to book in their lift services. A lot of the tenants are elderly and vulnerable people so there’s a good deal of sensitivity required when it comes to customer service”
Through the council contracts Sheridan Lifts are social value champions which gives us the opportunity to engage with the local community through things like educational days (we recently attended Robinson High School and spoke to the school leavers) and offering 8-week placement courses like the one Anthony B took when he joined the business.
“I really enjoyed building relationships and trust and the challenges that the job brings. It’s a great role for Lewis here to step into, he’s been on the team for just under a year now and shadowing me for the past 5 months so our clients will be in safe hands”
So tell us about Australia then?
“I’m leaving the UK in July and heading to Hong Kong initially to meet up with family for a week or so, then I’m heading over to Melbourne and then exploring the Gold Coast. I have a full visa for 12 months and then we will see what happens”
Whilst we are all sorry to see Steven go, we are also excited for him and would like to wish him all the very best for the future. Director Daniel Sheridan said this about Steven:
“Steven is one of our own, he has been an incredibly loyal member of our team and we’re all sad to see him leave. He is one of the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet”
“I have personally told him that there will always be a job for him here if he ever decided to return to the UK”
You can’t get a much better endorsement than that, so well done to Steven and come and see us when you are back in the UK, whenever that may be!
